for Self-Love

A virtual Retreat

It’s time to reclaim our own unique beauty.

Let’s rewire our brains to perceive our own glory.

Hello, Gorgeous! I want you to remember what you were born knowing: that you are one of a kind. A rare treasure.

We are born brilliant, beautiful, unique.

We come into this world trusting our own sparkle.

As we grow up, the world wears this away. We learn to pick ourselves apart, compare ourselves to others, to rate ourselves according to the values of the ladder of body hierarchy.

We learn that some physical attributes are “good” and others aren’t.

We strive to make our bodies “better” by many means, but no matter how hard we try, we never feel like our bodies are good enough.

Let’s exit the hamster wheel of fixing, body checking, and striving.

You’ll walk away from this virtual retreat with:

  • practical skills for taking artful selfies

  • the confidence to take effortless thirst traps (hayyy)

  • a hype-squad who will shower you with your preferred affirmations when you share your selfies

  • A new appreciation of your uniqueness

  • A deep trust that all bodies are good bodies (including yours)

  • A devotion to discernment - where are those negative thought loops coming from? What systems of oppression are they rooted in?

  • A revolutionary fire in your belly

  • A radical self love practice you can keep for the rest of your life

How will we do this tho?

  • Looking at our own image with love is the eventual goal, but first, we need to get more comfortable simply SEEING ourselves. Also, we must place in context that we are not seeing OURSELVES, but merely a 2 dimensional image of our physical body. Which is always going to be somewhat jarring because an image simply cannot capture the many facets that are YOU ~ in motion, existing in all your sensory glory. So your first assignment is to get into a month-long practice of capturing images of yourself, and witnessing yourself through that lens.

  • Can you simply collect them, like a historian would? Without getting invested in the narrative. Imagine you are doing anthropological research on a species unknown to you. “Ah, this being sees an image of itself and immediately begins to tell this story…”

  • They aren’t YOURS. they’ve been woven into your fabric from an early age. Part of unweaving them is identifying where they came from. Who’s voice is telling this story? What systemic beliefs are underpinning this narrative? What values are fueling these judgments? Are they YOUR values? If not, they hold no power over you.

  • Even when we get a compliment, we often struggle to let it in. How many times have you qualified it and whittled it down? “I like your shirt” “oh thanks, it’s just target sale rack”

Also, culturally, folks who have been socialized female have been taught that it is of utmost importance to BE attractive, but that we should not SEEK ATTENTION or affirmation of our attractiveness. I can remember my classmates saying “Yeah, she’s pretty, but she KNOWS it.” like that was The Worst Thing.

I am playing with the idea that there is nothing wrong with seeing beauty in ourselves, nor in craving acknowledgement of our beauty from others. It feels deliciously subversive to entertain this reality. I hope you’ll join me — it’s definitely a The More The Merrier kind of Party.

Practically speaking, here’s how it’s going to go down

Virtual Retreat

Embodied Self Inquiry

Hannah will lead us through some internal inquiry (journaling) to identify our stories, fears, and desires related to our own image. We will sprinkle in somatic movement to resource & ground ourselves. There will be an opportunity to share with the group.

The Art of the Selfie

The brilliant empowerment photographer Meg Froehler will teach us how to find and play with our light, set up angles and shapes that might help us see ourselves with new eyes, and offer practical tips & tricks of the trade.

A month of community-supported practice

Each week, you’ll receive a new prompt to inspire your creativity in the practice. These are invitations, you can totally go off script and do your own thang if you are feeling inspired! But if too many choices feels overwhelming, the prompts are there to help you pick a focus.

This practice is potent even if it goes un-witnessed by anyone but you.

And, it’s been TRANSFORMATIONAL for me to share and get more comfortable receiving attention & affirmation, so sharing is an optional part of this container if you choose it.

We will form support pods & create group agreements so that boundaries & desires are clear, and sharing feels as safe as possible.

Are you ready to see yourself in a new light?

Meet Hannah

Hannah (she/they) is a body liberation coach and gender-expansive witch committed to supporting folks who feel left out of, or harmed by, mainstream fitness offerings.

Hannah loves to work with folks who believe they aren't able-bodied enough to participate in even the “beginner” offerings out there, folks who are trans or non-binary and desire a non-gendered approach to movement, cis-men who are over "bro fitness culture,” and women who have had it with patriarchal beauty standards.

Hannah supports their clients to trust themselves and their own bodies, and discover a plethora of ways to MOVE that feel supportive to their wellbeing. Re-claiming movement as a way to help us regulate our nervous systems, put self-love into practice, and cultivate an internal feeling of power & strength is their JAM.

Hannah delights in unraveling the stories and societal expectations of what exercise "should" be, and restoring our access to movement in all the ways in can truly nourish the body and soul.
